Message of the Month: June | Canada & Northern America
From Yukon to Yellowstone, from Alberta to Arizona — the geothermal story of Northern America is being rewritten. North America is home to about 4 GW of installed geothermal electricity capacity — with the United States leading the world, and Canada on the rise with its first commercial geothermal power plant in Saskatchewan almost online. But it’s not just about electricity.

This region is a hotbed of innovation in direct use, heating and cooling, lithium extraction, and repurposing oil & gas wells for geothermal.

  • In Alberta, companies like Eavor’s closed-loop systems are redefining how we think about scalable heat.
  • In California and Nevada, advanced geothermal pilots and superhot rock drilling are pushing the technical frontier.
  • In British Columbia, Indigenous-led initiatives are paving the way for inclusive, sustainable development.

Across the U.S., the Department of Energy’s Enhanced Geothermal Shot is setting a national target to achieve 90 GW by 2050.

As we kick off our GLOBAL_GT campaign, we celebrate the achievements and ambitions of this powerhouse region — not just as geothermal pioneers, but as global partners shaping the clean energy future.

    This month, we highlight:

    • Technologists engineering next-gen systems
    • Policy leaders crafting incentives and frameworks
    • Communities and Indigenous partners with deep wisdom and bold vision
    • Startups and scale-ups building heat-based solutions for energy, food, and water

We start in North America and Canada, but this is just the beginning. One region each month. One global campaign. One geothermal future. Let’s raise the heat, raise awareness — and raise the bar.

We are IGA — the global geothermal connector. We are the pulse. We are the heartbeat. We are the agenda.

Follow the journey. Share your stories with Hashtag#GLOBAL_GT and join our growing community — we can’t do this without you.
