| Abstract | We present here new improved equations for the and geothermometers, obtained by the theory of error propagation and statistical treatment of the data base used by Fournier (1979) and Fournier and Potter (1982). The minimum and "reasonable" maximum errors associated with the use of the new geothermometric equation for range respectively from and for the temperature range of These values are significantly lower than and found for the original Fournier equation. Similarly, the new equations for the geothermometer, for 20?C to result in the minimum and "reasonable" maximum errors of and - respectively, which are much lower than - and for the original regression. Finally, an application of the geothermometer to actual field data shows a better performance of our new equation. |
