| Abstract | Based on the concept of a geothermal reactor, we conducted reaction experiments for CO2/water/rock and CO2/water/ ironoxide systems at high temperatures and pressures using a batch type autoclave. We found that the presence of CO2 significantly affects the dissolution behavior of rock-forming minerals. In addition, it was demonstrated that CO2, in the presence of iron oxides, was converted into several hydrocarbons at 300 and 350 ?C. The present results may provide fundamental knowledge for the development of underground CO2 injection technology, and furthermore open up a new route for the conversion of CO2 into useful products using geothermal energy. |
