| Abstract | The Iranian Ministry of Energy - through the Iran Renewable Energy Organization (SUNA) – is going to build the first Geothermal Power Plant in Iran in the Sabalan area in the Northwest of Iran. In preparation of this project Iranian authorities have successfully completed Exploratory surface studies including geophysical gravity and MT methods, geochemical studies of hot waters and geological investigations over an area of 600 km2 followed by drilling explorations on the Sabalan mountain slopes. These included three deep exploratory wells drilled up to depths of 3,197 m, 3,176 m and 2,265 m plus two injection wells up to 550 m depth as well as flow tests of the wells. The flow tests resulted in a potential for geothermal power development in the order of 250 MW. In the first step SUNA intends to install a 5 MWe single flash steam condensing turbine and generator package unit type with Moshanir company as consultant. In this paper we discuss the designing of a hydronic snow melting system in above mentioned project. The snow melting system designing is presented based on criteria established by ASHRAE and supposed to be designed only for main access road from the administration building to the power house in the site of this geothermal pilot power plant, Geothermal energy is supplied to system through a heat exchanger so It is a closed cycle type and the fluid which is required for this system is supplied from a heat exchanger. The heating water which will be used in heat exchanger will be supplied from the silencer and separator drain. For designing the snow melting system we need to know about the location and the climatic condition of the power plant site which designing depends on such as the rate of snow fall, air temperature, relative humidity and wind velocity. Piping materials are cross linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing and applicable fittings due to corrosion Problems. |
