Abstract This paper will present the results of a New Energy Foundation sponsored collaboration between Quest Integrity (NZL) Ltd and National Institute for Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) Institute for Geo-Resources and Environment. The paper will compare New Zealand and Japan geothermal energy usage and highlight materials and process issues facing these two countries. Benefits that may arise from Risk Based Assessment and Risk Based Inspection of aging geothermal energy plant, from processes that improve efficiency and from industry groups such as the newly formed Geothermal Steam Turbine Users Group will be discussed.
