| Abstract | According to India's ambitious energy programme, it appears that Renewable Energy Sources will be generating substantial quantity of power in future. If the geothermal energy potential is exploited, then India will have surplus electrical power. This expansion should be planed to help the rural areas rather than the urban areas. In the very near future India may appear on the geothermal map of the world with the proposal of generating power and direct utilization of geothermal energy from the existing bore-wells in Puga. Utilizing geothermal energy by food processing industries in Himachal Pradesh may make India a global player in future. Potential sites for developing hot dry rock projects do exit in the Himalayas and in central India. |
