| Abstract | In order to define the probable extent of the Cerro Prieto geothermal field and to further establish the geothermal possibilities of the Mexicali Valley, the Coordinadora Ejecutiva de Cerro Prieto began a series of geophysical studies in July 1978. Some of the results obtained will be presented here. The survey was performed by means of vertical electrical soundings, with survey lines perpendicular to the principal structures in order to obtain the greatest amount of information from the subsurface. The survey started with a regional study of an area covering approximately 580 km2, in which 114 vertical electrical soundings (VES) were performed along four lines (1, 2, 3, and 4). These lines were oriented in a southwest-northeast direction, with spacings of approximately 8 km, and with stations at each kilometer. Subsequently, a detailed survey covering an area of 208 km2 was performed, which included the present producing field. This study consisted of 74 VES along seven lines (Nos. 6 to 12). These lines are oriented parallel to the regional lines in a southwestnortheast direction and spaced 2 km apart with stations at every kilometer. La Coordinadora Ejecutiva de terro Prieto en un intento de definir los limites del campo de Cerro Prieto y extender el conocimiento de las posibilidades geotermicasdel Valle de Mexica1i, inicio en e1 mesde julio del ana proximo pasado, una serie de estudios geofisicos de los cuales se presentan algunos de los resultados ob tenidos. El levantamiento geoelectrico por medio de sondeos verticales, fue programado colocando las lineas de estudio perpendiculares a las estructuras principales para lograr la mayor informacion del subsuelo. Programadas estas bajo dichas condiciones, el levantamiento se inicio con el estudio denominado regional en una area de aproxi madamente 580 Km 2, en los cuales se ejecu taron 114 SEV. distribuidos en cuatro lineas (1, 2, 3 y 4) de rumbo suroeste-noreste, espaciadas aproximadamente 8 Km y con estaciones cada kilometro. Del resul tado de estas, se programo un estudio de detalle en una area de 208 Km 2, en la que quedo incluida la zona actual de explotacion, consistente en 74 seven 7 lineas (Nos. 6 a 12), espaciadas 2 Km, con rumbo suroeste-noreste, paralelo a las regionales y con espaciamientos de estaciones ca da kilometro. |
