| Abstract | A tectonically active region of the earth's crust having scientific bearing on plate tectonic theory, the Salton Trough has been under study by geophysicists for many years (Kovach et al., 1962; Biehler, et al., 1964). Interest in the Mexicali Valley portion of the trough and in Cerro Prieto for geothermal energy development, began about 20 years ago (Reed, 1976). La Depresion de Salton, como region tectonicamente activa de la corteza terrestre relacionada cientfficamente con la teoria de tectonica de placas, ha side estudiada por geofisicos durante muchos anos (Kovach y otros, 1962; Biehler y otros, 1964). Hace aproximadamente veinte anos surgio el interes en la parte de la depresion correspondiente al Valle de Mexicali y a Cerro Prieto, para el desarrollo de energia geotermica (Reed, 1976). |
