| Abstract | Self-potential anomalies are correlated with geothermal activity in many areas around the world (Corwin and Hoover, 1978). These anomalies often are associated with faults which are thought to serve as conduits for thermal fluids, or with areas of high heat flow or vigorous subsurface fluid flow. To see whether the self-potential method could prove helpful in delineating the zone of geothermal activity at the Cerro Prieto field, about 100 line km of data were taken in the vicinity of the presently operating geothermal wells and 7S MW power plant. The measurements were made in December 1977 and in March and July 1978. Survey results and a brief theoretical analysis of their significance are presented in this paper. En muchas areas del mundo las anomalias de potencial espontaneo se correlacionan con la actividad geotermica (Corwin y Hoover, 1978). Dichas anomalias se asocian a menudo con fallas que, se piensa, sirven como conductos para fluidos termales, o con areas de alto flujo de calor o con vigorosos flujos subterraneos. Para determinar si el metodo de potencial espontaneo resulta util para delinear la zona de actividad geotermica en el campo de Cerro Prieto, se tomaron 100 km lineales de datos en las cercanias de los pozos actualmente en operacion y de la planta generadora de 75 MW. Las mediciones se llevaron a cabo en diciembre de 1977, y en marzo y julio de 1978. En este trabajo se presentan los resultados del relevamiento conjuntamente con un breve analisis teorico de su significado. |
