| Abstract | This study concerns the possible extension of the Cerro Prieto field and identification of other zones in the Mexicali Valley with geothermal development potential by assessing the structural geologic conditions in relation to the regional tectonic framework and the integration of geologic and geophysical surveys carried out at Cerro Prieto. This study is based on data obtained from the wells drilled to date and the available geological and geophysical information. With this information, a geologic model of the field is developed as a general description of the geometry of what might be the geothermal reservoir of the Cerro Prieto field. In areas with geothermal potential within the Mexicali Valley, the location of irrigation wells with anomalous temperatures was taken as a point of departure for subsequent studies. Based on this initial information, gravity and magnetic surveys were made, followed by seismic reflection and refraction surveys and the drilling of 1200-m-deep multiple-use wells. Based on the results of the final integration of these studies with the geology of the region, it is suggested that the following areas should be explored further: east of Cerro Prieto, Tulecheck, Riito, Aeropuerto-Algodones, and San Luis Roo Colorado, Sonora. En una evaluacion de las condiciones geoliigico-estructurales dentro de sumarco tectonico regional, y con la integracion de los trabaj os geologicos y geofisicos realizados en el Campo de Cerro Prieto, se intenta estaolecer la posible extension del mismo, asi como otras zonas que podrian tener probaoilidades de desarrollo geotermico dentro del Valle de Mexicali. Este trabajo tiene como antecedente la informacion cotenida de los pozos construidos a 1a fecha, y la informacion geologica y geofisica disponible con lo cual se esta contriDuyendo a la formacion del modelo geologico que en forma generalizada establece la geometrta de lo que podria constituir el yacimiento geotermico del campo de Cerro Prieto. En lo que respecta a las areas con probabilidades dentro del Valle de Mexicali, se ha tornado como apoyo inicial para los subsiguientes estudios, las manifestaciones de temperaturas anomalas detectadas en los pozos construldos para riego. En base a esa prrmera informacion, se a realizar trabajos de gravimetria y magnetometria, para continuar con los de Sismica de Reflexion y Refraccion, asi como la construccion de pozos de usc multiple de +-1200 m de profundidad. Al describir los resultados en la integracian final de estos trabajos junto con la geologia de la region, se sugiere interes exploratorio en las areas de Este de Cerro Prieto, Tulecheck, Riito, Aeropuerto-Algodones y San Luis Rio Colorado, Son. |
