Abstract The direct geothermal use in Viet Nam was carried out since 20th years of XX century. At present, more than 100 hot water sources from north to south are being exploited for different purposes. The type of direct geothermal use is mainly as: bottling for drinking, sanatorium with balneological treatment, tourist resort, exploitation of geothermal energy for drying agriculture products, production of iodic salt and extraction of CO2 gas, and irrigation. Generally, current state of direct geothermal use is still limited in quantity and scale. It is necessary to continue systematical and allround investigation for a rather accurate evaluation of the thermal sources and also staff training in geothermal energy technology.
