| Abstract | To sustain the geothermal industry, new areas need to be developed and the potential of the producing fields need to be maximized while maintaining current levels of production. Sustaining the geothermal industry in the Philippines cannot be done by any single entity. Instead, several organizations help in this effort. This paper has shown two different ways in which two entities can help each other in achieving the common goal. The Philippine Geothermal 1 Program was established to identify to investors priority areas for geothermal development. Various incentives are in-place, and are being enacted into law, that will facilitate the entry of investors. The geothermal component in the electricity mix has been shown to be significant within the planning horizon of the Philippine Energy Plan 2004 – 2013. Field and resource management strategies were formulated and implemented in all of PNOC-EDC’s geothermal fields to sustain full production of the power generation facilities. These strategies fully or partly address the steam availability needs considering the constraints that resulted from the various reservoir processes as a response to exploitation. In-house and commercially available technologies have evolved and were able to address most of problems being experienced. PNOC-EDC has demonstrated a high level of technical maturity and capability with over 25 years experience in the industry. |
