Abstract Reinjection has been widely used in the management of geothermal field, and is becoming a kind of routine in a lot of geothermal fields. Beijing is a city with abundant low temperature geothermal resources, which are used for domestic hot water (also including swimming pool and health spa), space heating, greenhouse, fish farming, etc. The water level in the most important geothermal fields, like that of the Urban Geothermal Field and the Xiaotangshan Geothermal Field, has been depressing for a rather long time. Therefore, reinjection has been regarded as an important measure of geothermal management. Reinjection experiments have been carried out in two geothermal fields. In this paper, the available water sources in the area of Beijing for geothermal reinjection is analyzed, and the long-term cooling effect of colder geothermal fluid injection is estimated. A few important aspects related to geothermal reinjection, such as the distance between the reinjection and production wells, tracer test and monitoring program are emphasized. The preliminary results of two geothermal reinjection experiments are presented..
