Abstract This paper discusses the foming and recharge conditions of geothermal fluid in Tianjin by background isotope study, analysising the relationship of d2H and d18O, marking role of 3H on the water and 14C dating. It is indicated that the geothermal water in Tianjin came from precipitation, The age of the geothermal water is 12,000~22,000 year. The recharge area is in the Yanshan Mountains to the North. The water goes to the southwest along the Cangxian Uplifting. Some artificial 3H has been detected in the geothermal water, meaning some modern water is mixed in the geothermal water..
