Abstract Both belonging to the countries with a long history in the area of research and utilization of medicinal thermo-mineral water in the world, China and Russia abound in thermo-mineral water and boast of all the types in this connection. The thermo-mineral water can be used as a form of energy source, water resources and industrial chemicals and also prove to be a kind of precious purely-natural medicinal thermo-mineral water resources in terms of their high medicinal significance. Since ancient times, they have been successfully utilized for medicine, recuperation of human health, convalescence and other purposes. In the region of studying their formation, distribution and type classification, their development and utilization carried out by the two countries, a great deal of achievements have been scored and a lot of experience have been accumulated. Especially, lots of invaluable experience have been drawn by the geoscientists of the two countries each other in connection with medicinal theories and practical uses of hydrogen sulfide-carbon dioxide water, carbon dioxide water, nitrogen water, radon water, hydrogen sulfide water and methane water, as well as in opening up the markets and for multipurpose utilization of the above-mentioned medicinal thermo-mineral water types. The main object in presenting this paper wishes to exchange each other and to mutually complement one another in this regard, hoping as well to further promote the rapid advancement of research on and utilization of medicinal thermo-mineral water, so as to bring better benefit to the peoples of the two countries.
