Abstract A geothermal well was drilled in Nangong Village, west of Fengtai District in Beijing in 1998. The well with a depth of 2,950 m has a temperature of 72?C at wellhead and flow rate of 2,245 m3/d. Under supervising of the Geothermal Engineering Institute of Beijing Institute of Geological Engineering, local people have developed the well as a new pattern for geothermal development and utilization in Beijing. The thermal water was used in space heating of 30,000 m2 in winter first. The waste water after heating with temperature of 48?C was filtered and disposed for iron-decreasing, then was transferred to Hot Spring Guest House and Hot Spring Apartments as hot water supplying. The Hot Spring Hall of Fishing, Hot Spring Hall of Fish Feeding and Hot Spring Hall of Planting also use this water as temperature adjustment. After these heat pump system will heat a part of the water to increase temperature for heating in Hot Spring Hall of Swimming and then recharging into swimming pool. Two more new production wells and two reinjection wells are planned for further development, in order to enlarge the utilization in medical treatment aspect and to keep sustainable development.
The characteristics of geothermal utilization in Nangong is in following aspects:
a. Industrialized development of geothermal resources. All items of geothermal utilization in Nangong are designed in a general development program. Geothermal water was planned scientifically and reasonably to go the comprehensive utilization step by step followed its temperature changing. Its utilization items covered almost overall aspects of geothermal direct use, such as space heating, bathing, greenhouse, aquatic feeding, hot spring entertainment and will be for medical treatment.
b. Created an additional risen value of geothermal resources utilization. It has established the first Geothermal Museum in China. It includes a show hall of movie or digital image to show geothermal image and a high-rank but scientific popularized exhibition hall to introduce geothermal science, and also various actual geothermal utilization sites. Such geothermal entertainment sightseeing combined with scientific popularization has increased an obvious social benefit.
c. A pattern function for geothermal development in China. There are many good examples of geothermal comprehensive utilization in China. However, Nangong is a new typical pattern reached a highest level at present.
