| Abstract | Geothermally relevant legislation is reviewed for selected countries. The compilation for Germany, France, Hungary, Romania and Switzerland reveals that the legal bases show great differences. Governmental policies to support geothermal development are focusing so far on power generation only. Serious efforts are needed to harmonize legislation and to simplify procedures particularly in the EU as well as to establish and implement strong policies to boost geothermal direct use. |
