| Abstract | From the dawn of the human adventure the presence of man in the Tuscan geothermal zone has ben ascertained. This presence is related with the specific characteristics of the area. In the historic prechristian era relationships exist between the birth of religious landmarks and geothermal phenomena, both for direct utilisation of geothermal sources and for the making of healing substances. In particular, many ìPieviî (country churches) and hospitals were built during the Middle Age along the so-called ìVia Maremmanaî, that crossed the geothermal area from NE to SW. |
