| Abstract | The successful circulation test carried out in 1997 demonstrated that it is possible to circulate at flow rates of around 25 Vs between two wells with a separation of 450 m and in the depth range of 3000 - 3500 m. Although it can be observed that the heat produced was sufficient for space heating (14O-15O0C), it is apparent that the temperature was not high enough for electricity production at an economic rate. Temperature at around 200?C is more attractive for electricity production and therefore it was decided that an existing well GPK2 will be deepened to 5000 m to reach the required temperature. Scientific investigations will be carried out to characterise the parameters required to create an efficient heat exchanger at this depth. The paper describes the targets and the preliminary scientific data (fi-acture network, temperature, etc.. .) obtained during and just after the drilling of GPK2. |
