Abstract A theoretical model describing shape downhole heat performance with no convector pipe is presented in the paper. The initial matrix temperature which DHE is located at consists of two parts. One is the linear temperature distribution at the upper section and the other is the parabolic temperature distribution at the lower section along the well respectively, pure conduction dominated and convection dominated parts are considered separately. Analytical formula and procedures for calculating the heat output of DHE are given.
