| Abstract | Beginning in an international collaborative project on advanced microseismic techniques for geothermal development was developed between research groups in the USA, UK. France, and Japan. Acoustic mapping techniques are widely used in most geothermal projects, but since their reservoir images are normally cloudy, only a rather blurred estimate of the location and size of the reservoir can be obtained. Some research groups have recently developed new mapping techniques that may provide a better understanding of these geothermal reservoirs. This international effort represents a pure scientific and academic project between the participating groups utilizing the INTERNET with the of improving such techniques and to advance geothermal technology. The project involves cooperative research, with a mutual exchange and utilization of the field data sets obtained by each research group, which are usually obtained at significant cost to each individual group. It is expected that new universal technologies will be established by verifying and applying the shared data to different geothermal fields and among participants using different measurement systems. |
