| Abstract | Development of mathematical models for hydrothermal eruptions depends crucially on understanding transient boiling processes in porous media. In this paper we report on work in progress, where observations from laboratory experiments are compared with results from numerical simulations using a mathematical model based on conservation laws. While qualitative results are similar, more investigation is needed. Differences in experimental and simulation configurations need to be resolved in order to gain quantitative agreement. |
