Geoscientific exploration data provides important surface information during the preliminary assessment of Philippine prospect areas prior to any advanced studies. Multi-disciplinary evaluation approach using geological, geochemical, geophysical assessments are made to come up with a hypothetical hydrogeological model which is used as basis for establishing the commercial viability of an area and deciding on a deep drilling venture. At PNOC-EDC, the Exploration Data Information System (EXPLOIS) was recently created to serve as the central repository of all exploration data. It provides electronic storage for geological data on surface geology, petrography, paleontology, absolute rock dates and structural or fault data: geochemistry of different water, gas and isotope analyses: and geophysical data such as gravity, microseismic, and resistivity (magnetotelluric) surveys.Using Oracle RDBMS for database management, Oracle Developer Tools for program development and incorporating third-party software, such as Microsoft Excel and Grapher 3.0 for report and plot generation, EXPLOIS offers a dynamic method for handling the resource evaluation of prospective geothermal areas. It also serves a useful tool in the evaluation of reservoir conditions in existing developmental and operating geothermal projects. Data entry, data reduction, reports generation of raw and processed data, text and photo uploading, user access to historical exploration document files. And graphing using special tools are among the system's features and capabilities. |
