Abstract The process of field proving is to balance between on the one hand expenditure of money and time, and depletion of the reservoir by discharge, and on the other increasing certainty gained about the size of the resource and size of the power station built to exploit it. Underlying this process are die techniques used to assess the resource, and to reach a considered opinion about its size. Improvements in resource assessment in recent years are primarily a consequence of the accumulated experience of the global geothermal industry; rather than any radical change in approach or technique. Use of simulations has helped impose consistency on reservoir assessments, and provide assurance against gross errors.
