Abstract The Republic of Macedonia has over a 30-year tradition in geothermal energy utilization. The oil crisis of the 1970s and 1980s provided a fresh impetus for assessment and exploration of potential systems in fractured aquifers, and for development of applications of low-enthalpy thermal water. There are 15 projects for heating greenhouses, drying agricultural products, space heating, swimming pool heating, sanitary warm water preparation, industrial uses, etc. Up to date information about the uses of geothermal resources are presented.
