Abstract Improvements in performance and in management of laboratory operations have become a long-term goal of UNOCAL Philippines Tiwi Chemistry Laboratory. This goal has been realized through the implementation of the following: 1) Analysis of Chloride by Ion Chromatography to replace Chloride Analysis using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, 2) Inclusion of 10% KI in Arsenic Analysis, 3) Analysis of Boron by Ion Chromatography to replace Boron Analysis by Carmine Method, 4) Analysis of Benzoate Brine Tracer using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer to replace Benzoate analysis using Ion Chromatography, 5) Analysis of Sulfur Dioxide as Sulfate to replace Sulfur Dioxide analysis using UV-Vis spectrophotometer, 6) Shelf Life Determination of Chloride Intermediate Standard, and 7) Waste Characterization, Identification and Segregation. As purpose customer Chemistry, enhancing Inc. with These alternative programs have improved laboratory operations as regards to quality, cost, safety and analysis run time. Prior to implementation, the programs indicated above have been validated and statistically evaluated. Comparative studies of the previously adopted analytical methods and these programs have shown no significant difference.
