Mahanagdong-A Fluid Collection and Recycling Sysfem (FCRS) drsposes about 600 kg/s of low pressure brine in a 30" brine pipeline. At current operation, the brine rs under-saturated with respect to silica. However, scaling in the pipeline was obserued starting 2001 when low silica wells declined in output and separated bine was dominated by silicasaturated production wells. This resulted in pipeline scaling reaching up to 4-5 inches thick. After the 2004 Preventive Maintenance Shutdown (PMS) and manually cleaning portions of the 30" pipeline, the total brine line handling capacity to Pad RDl wells slightlyi ncreasedfr om 450 to 485k g/s However,t his rs sfi// lower than the load previously injected at Pad RDl at a high of 569 kg/s or its maximum pipeline capacity of 567 kg/s. Pressure profiling was succes sfully utilized to identify secfions along the main injection line for priority cleaning using Veltrup high-pressure water technology to ensure complete cleaning of the pipes with high silica deposition. The complete Veltrup sysfem consisfs of a high-pressure pump that feeds into the Roto-fan connected to a high-pressure hose and nozzle with controlled rotational forward-reverse feed mechanr'sm. Corkscr ew motion of the nozzle allows full coverage of internal surface, cleaning down to almost bare metal, However, for some locations with unexpected heavy buitd-up of sitica deposition, the nozzle has a high risk of getting stuck in thick deposifs. ln fhis case, pipeline is then manually cleaned. About 2.7 km of the main injection line was cleaned, and 39.2 MT of debris was collected in the August 2005 MG-A PMS with an averaged ebris thicknessa f 0.2-3.6 inches. Total brine load transported to Pad RDl after the cleaning increased from 478 to 577 kg/s. Thorough de-scaling and cleaning of the pipeline using manual and Veltrup water technology have sufficiently eased the flow of brine injection to Pad RDl. Also, pressu re profiling was useful in identifying priority area for cleaning, enabling Veltrup to accomplish cleaning in sections of the pipelines with thickesf deposrfs. Total load transported (577 kg/s) is already within the maximum pipe capacity of 567 kg/s and has exceeded the previously injected brine at a high of 569 kg/s |
