| Abstract | ln recognition of the hazards posed by greenhouse gases (GHG) and further to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an international agreement called the Kyoto Protocol was esfab/ished to reduce worldwide emissrons of GHGs. Under fhis Protocol, which was adopted in 1 1 December 1997 and entered into force on 16 February 2005, industrialized countries are obliged to reduce their combined GHG emissions by 5.2% compared to 1990 levels during the first commitmenpt eriod( 2008-2012 ). The CleanD evelopmenMt echanism( CDM) rs one of the facilitiese sfab/ish ed by the Protocol that allows companies in industrialized countries to invest in susfarna ble development projects in developing countries that avoid emrssions and receive credit in the form of "certified emissions reductions" (CERs) which can be used for their compliance to their commitmenfs. ln this paper, we share our experiences in developing the 20 MW Nasulo Geothermal Project as a CDM project to promote renewablee nergy and susfarna ble development in the Philipprnes and on esfab/ishing business opportunitiesin the thrivingc arbon finance market through the CDM initiative |
