| Abstract | The selection of an appropriate drilling rig plays a critical role in the success of geothermal exploration projects. This paper aims to provide insights into the factors and decision-making criteria involved in drilling rig selection for geothermal exploration. The introduction highlights the importance of rig selection in achieving efficient and cost-effective drilling operations. It establishes the objectives of the paper, which are to identify key factors and criteria that influence rig selection decisions and to provide a simple framework for evaluating and comparing drilling rigs. To aid decision-making, a framework for evaluating and comparing drilling rigs is discussed. The paper also underscores the significance of collaboration among geoscientists, drilling engineers, and project managers in the rig selection process. By understanding the factors and decision-making criteria outlined in this paper, stakeholders involved in geothermal exploration can make informed choices in selecting drilling rigs that align with project requirements, optimize operational efficiency, and mitigate risks, ultimately leading to successful exploration outcomes. |
