Abstract Downhole measurements in the geothermal wells cannot be literally interpreted as reservoir profiles: the well profile is partly or wholly determined by fluid motion in the well. Careful interpretation is needed, and more care in two-phase systems. Two idealised conceptional models are described, to give a background idea of expected reservoir fluid state. A full set of measurements on Baca field, New Mexico, has been released (I). These measurements (2-5) are used to illustrate interpretation, and construct a conceptual model of Baca reservoir. Baca is a liquid dominated reservoir, with a two-phase region containing the best producers. No abnormally pressured zone has yet been penetrated by drilling.
