| Abstract | Butajira geothermal prospect is found in the Central Main Ethiopian Rift (CMER) near the western rift escarpment where thermal manifestations such as hot springs are aligned along NNE/SSW direction with surface temperature reaching up to 86â—¦c are located. The main objective of this study is to characterize the reservoir of the geothermal system in Butajira by estimating the sub-surface temperature using cation geothermometry. As a result sub-surface temperature exceeding 150â—¦c is obtained using Na-K geothermometer in which the prospect can be regarded as high enthalpy geothermal prospect. |
