Abstract The postponement of WGC 2020 to the year 2021 has given an opportunity to revise the paper. During the year 2019 - 2020, there were some progress in the geothermal development in Indonesia with some additional COD of geothermal power plants in a few geothermal working area (GWA).. Therefore, the paper needs to be revised accordingly. By the end of 2020, the total installed capacity of Geothermal Power Plants in Indonesia reached 2130.7 MW which made Indonesia the 2nd largest geothermal producer in the world after the USA (3695 MW). This milestone was reached after more than 35 years geothermal development which was started with the assistance of New Zealand Government for the first geothermal power plant project back in 1981, in Kamojang Geothermal working Area of West Java. The geothermal development were then continued with other geothermal working areas under the Presidential Decree no. 22 year 1981, which was then replaced with the Presidential Decree No. 45 & 49 Year 1991. In 2003, the GoI issued its first Geothermal Law no. 27 year 2003 which regulated all the Geothermal Business from the establishment of the Geothermal Working Area up to the tendering process. It has created some problems later on and also problem with usage of forestry area. So, in order to harmonize with the forestry law and also to speed up the progress of the geothermal development, the Law no. 27/2007 was revoked and replaced with the new geothermal Law No. 21 year 2014. This paper will discuss the journey of the geothermal development in Indonesia, the latest status of its potential and target of the geothermal development through 2025 and beyond. It will also discuss the regulations including forestry regulations, the tariffs, Non Tax income, its fiscal policy, PPA up to the investment required in order to achieve its ambitious target of 7242 MW by 2025.
