Abstract In the present scenario, the scope of geothermal energy is limited in India in contrast to other European nations, due to low subsurface enthalpy. The research departments are suffering because of the insufficient amount of fundings for geothermal exploration and exploitation in India. The present case study illustrates the utilization of geothermal water in the pulp and paper industry in the Indian Context. Specifically, the geothermal water will be used for the pulp washing process for the separation of black liquor and purification of pulp which will be helpful in the filtration and bleaching process. The water temperature should be optimized in a range of 65 – 75oC. According to the exploration test results of Unai, India, the installation of a paper and pulp production system will be feasible in this location.
