Abstract This paper is a preliminary investigation of the social dimension of sustainability with special emphasize on geothermal energy in Iceland. It is relevant to conduct this study due to the limited research on social sustainability, specifically in the geothermal sector. The inquiry will cover three criteria: communication, socio-economic and social acceptance. These three criteria are essential to explore the current social impact of utilizing geothermal energy. The primary objective of this paper is to provide insights to conduct a further in-depth investigation of the three criteria.
