Abstract There are currently 3 geothermal projects under various stages of development on the territory of the Eurometropole of Strasbourg. Although the high tariff for electricity from geothermal has been an important factor for encouraging investment in these projects, it also appears to be a barrier for direct use of the resource at local level. Being in charge of the organization of energy related matters and facing various challenges related to the energy transition, the Eurometropole has been seeking ways to integrate these projects to enable the territory to benefit from this local renewable source of energy. Various players could potentially be involved in the direct use opportunities which makes the development of a strategy at the community level even more complex. The paper proposes an overview of the strategic planning study conducted in 2018 to find ways to integrate the geothermal projects for direct use purposes at the local level.
