The acquisition of The Kawerau toreflald assets in 1375 by, the Oil and Gas Division of the Ministry of Energy and the subsequent steam supply arrangement to Tasman Pulp and Paper Co., was the first commerclal geothermal vsnture for the MInistry. Five years after the purchase of the torefield the Ministry of Energy has recently negotiated an increase in steam supply to Tasman from 190 tonnes per hour up to a nuximum of 270 tonnos per hour. Fiald operations ara primarily concerned with equating steam supply with customer demand. Because of the chanqeable natare of the mill operations 3nd the uncertainty associated with field supply there is a great risk of mismatch betraen supply and demand. operator to minimise the r is k of a supply shortfall or an unnecessary surpIus. wsll and reservoir rundown, well claanouts, well siting, well lifatime, phasing of new rells, existing plant capacity, future supply Fotantial, land negotiations, water right; and waste disposal, design and construction of plant, seasonal changes in demand, future customer demand, miII shutdowns and the operation of the steam supply contract. Decisions are mde to meet the commercial objectives of the Ministry which are to provide a reasonable return to the Crown whlle mintaining supply to the customer. |
