Abstract Chemical data from about 200 thermal springs and wells from North China have been processed. The geothermal waters are classified into 5 groups with different chemical and geographical characteristics. All geothermal waters studied have high concentrationsof fluorine, silica, Rn, Ra, Most of the geothermal waters originate from meteoric water except a few brines which occur in some warm springs and wells near the coast. After deep circulation, the geothermal water mixes with near-surface water. The potential for discovery of other geothermal resources in North China is promising based on the results of this study.
