| Abstract | Hammer drilling is nowadays used for drilling in hard rock with high ROP (rate of penetration). Most DTH (down the hole) hammer systems are powered by air and air mixtures which makes them suitable for surface-near drilling. Water powered DTH drilling solutions for deep hard rock drilling have been developed in the past and were used in this project. Next to using existing technologies, a DTH mud hammer prototype has been developed and built. New simulation methods are also used to simulate the dynamics of such a DTH system. |
