| Abstract | The effect of rake angles on the performance of PDC (polycrystalline diamond compact) bits and the performance of a new PDC cutter were investigated by laboratory rock cutting, drilling and durability tests. PDC core bits were designed for field tests based on the result of laboratory tests and their performance was evaluated in a granite quarry. In the field , the PDC core bit with new cutters succeeded in granite drilling of more than 30 m. From the field tests, it became clear that the new bit can be applied to drilling of abrasive, fractured and hard rock formations economically. |
