Abstract This paper describes an unexpected phenomena of the Szentes geothermal field in Hungary. The geothermal operation was started in the area more than 50 years ago, and the intensive and long-term production resulted significant pressure decrease in the porous thermal reservoirs. On the contrary, at the K-639 well a huge pressure increase was experienced in 2009 comparing with the measured data of the 80’s. The dissipating overpressure through the Lower Pannonian aquitard strata can be a possible solution to the problem.
