While base-load and flexible renewable resources like geothermal offer beneficial attributes which could aid in solving the intermittency issues created by other renewables like wind and solar, these resources are outcompeting geothermal in the marketplace due to the failure to account for integration costs. In order to provide equal competition between base-load and intermittent renewable resources, market solutions should be considered including the addition of integration cost adders to the procurement process, implementation of a geothermal carve-out and extension and modification of the Renewable Auction Mechanism process. |
