Abstract Pamukören geothermal filed is located at the central Northern margin of Büyük Menderes Graben (BMG). BMG is one of the most diagnostic intra-continental extensional structures, which characterizes the initial stage of a rifting under the control of the tensional neotectonic regime in southwestern Turkey graben-horst system. BMG has two morphotectonic configurations:(1) a wider, uplifted, dissected and deformed initial configuration of Miocene- Middle Pliocene age, and (2) the narrower, linear, undeformed and continuous recent configuration of Plio-Quaternary age. These two configurations are here termed to be the Paleotectonic graben and the modern graben, respectively (Bozkurt & Oberhaensli, 2001). The area is characterized by three groups of structures: (1) the combination of the back-tilted and folded pattern of the graben infills, (2) approximately E-W trending margin-boundary normal faults, and (3) approximately N-S trending transversal normal faults.
