| Abstract | Macedonia is characterized with low-temperature geothermal energy utilization, while the medium and high-temperature potentials are still not explored. Nevertheless, even the present available resources are by far underutilized. This paper gives summary of the geothermal status in Macedonia comprising the geological background, known hydro-geothermal resources and their potential, present state of geothermal surveys & utilization and main projects’ characteristics, with identification and comments on the negatively influencing factors. At the end, prospects of the expected/possible development are summarized. |
