Abstract Geothermal reinjection is one of necessary measures for geothermal resources sustainable development. A three dimensional numerical geothermal field model was built based on Xiongxian geothermal field of the Niutuozhen geothermal field in North China to study the advantage and disadvantage under different production-reinjection mode. Simulation result indicated that geothermal field service time would be reduced due to cooling of reservoir resulting from long time reinjection, even though this mode could maintain reservoir pressure in a short time. On the contrast, concentrated production-reinjection mode could only cool the reservoir temperature within reinjection area without affecting reservoir temperature in production area to guarantee sustainable thermal supply capacity of the geothermal field. Therefore, concentrated production-reinjection mode has great advantage in maintaining geothermal resources sustainable development in the geothermal field, in which reinjection is possible.
