Abstract Anhui province is located in monsoon climate region between warm temperate zone and subtropical zone. There are distinct four seasons, hot summer and cold winter, and is rich in surface water with demand of building both winter heating and summer cooling. However, temperature of surface water would too cold (28°C) under extreme condition in winter and summer, and the amount of surface water has seasonal imbalance in some areas, These are disadvantage condition for GSHP when using surface water. In the other hand, groundwater resource is not sufficient in South Anhui mountain hilly areas and its reinjection will be difficult. Riverside pumping method was used for collecting of shallow geothermal energy in GSHP project of Huangshan Gymnasium. It serves an area of 10,800 m2 for winter heating, summer cooling and warming swimming pool. A redial well yields groundwater of 140 m3/h. Reinjection well is located in similar condition. By energy efficiency evaluation, this project reached both energy saving and emission reduction. It is also cost saving with comparison to ground coupled GSHP. Such utility pattern is suitable for popularization and application in similar condition areas.
