Abstract In this study, CO2 emissions of geothermal based power plants were pointed out. Although geothermal energy has been known as a clean and sustainable source of energy, anthropogenic gases can cause emission substantially. In Turkey, CO2 emission of the geothermal fields rises up to 1800 gr/kWh. This value is two times more than the emission of coal burning plants. If CO2 dissolved in returning water from geothermal plants and reinjected into the geothermal reservoir, emitting problem can be solved. On the other hand, the plants emitting CO2 can be get greenhouse trading revenue. Dissolving CO2 in geothermal brine, water –rock interactions and behaviour reinjected fluid into the reservoir have been discussed in this paper.
