Abstract Circum-Bohai Bay area, which is located in central and eastern China, includes Beijing City, Tianjin City, Hebei Province, Shanxi Province, Shandong Province, Liaoning Province, northern Henan Province and the central area of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. These areas developed multiple suites of carbonate deposition in the Gaoyuzhuang and Wumishan period of Mesoproterozoic, the Middle-Late Cambrian and the Middle-Late Ordovician of Early Paleozoic. Undergoing multi-periods tectonic events, large areas of karst stratum formed in the region. Due to the high value of thermal background, the underground water in karst stratum which is buried deeper than 1000 meters is rich in geothermal resources. Additionally, with proper use of oil and gas exploration and drilling data, we can make rational decisions on optimal regions selection of geothermal resource development, resolve problems of tail water recharge and even environmental pollution by rational planning and cascade utilization of geothermal resource.
