Abstract Anomalies in helium concentration in the gas phase of the Los Azufres (Mexico) geothermal field wells were studied from 1984 to 2001. Considering “baseline values” of helium concentration ranging from 0.0001 to 0.005 (wt. % in dry gas), values as high as 0.09 have been found, whereas very low values such as 0.00001 have also been recorded. The anomalies were correlated to fluids re-injection, seismicity and changes in the reservoir liquid/steam ratio. Examples of such different effects in the behavior of helium concentration are discussed.
