Abstract About 600 000 cubic meters of water are daily pumped out
from coal mines in USCB. The temperature of that water is
always higher tha 13 degC. Thermal energy resources in mine
waters are large, however not utilised. For proper estimation
of these resources one have to consider aspects of mining
activity which causes cooling of rock surrounding the mine
workings as well as mine waters. The paper presents evaluation
of geothermal energy resources in waters pumped out
from 15 selected coal and ore mines. Most of these mines are
abandoned. The dewatering systems have been taken under
consideration in the evaluation. Total resources of geothermal
energy in selected mines amount to 83 MWt and they
may be economically utilised.
