Abstract The available materials for aggressive chemical environments are broad. This paper presents many of the corrosion resistant alloys available for geothermal fluids, including stainless steels, nickel-base alloys, titanium alloys, and zirconium. It addresses the material characteristics that make them suited for such service and suggests when not to use them. Relative cost ratios and life-cycle costs are critically important and will be provided. All of this information is intended to make the chemist, metallurgist and material scientist more aware of the specialty metal options for corrosive geothermal applications.
